Sword Fish

(Xiphias Gladius)



Identifying Features Swordfish are elongated, round-bodied, and lose all teeth and scales by adulthood. One keel on each side of caudal peduncle.  Two dorsal fins widely separated in adults but continuous in juveniles.


Loins The flesh of which is a pale pink in colour.

Habitat Marine; pelagic in the open ocean. Fished in Sri Lanka.
